Creating a new technology platform for the development of plant-based vaccines that has numerous advantages over current methods:
Controlled Environment Agricultural technology will be utilized to sustainably grow bio-pharmaceuticals.
To successfully respond to pandemics, one must respond rapidly with the development of vaccines that can then provide herd immunity. There is no other way, and we have seen in our current time that our best efforts still required 12–18-month timelines, if not longer. Shortening the production time of vaccines is one way to develop the capabilities to rapidly respond to global pandemics of unknown origins.
The transgenic plants could be engineered to produce several different viral proteins (from several viral strains) and the adjuvants needed for robust immune response.
An integrated approach to interlacing the science with the production so there is a seamless pathway for the vaccine to be developed and distributed to the global population.
Science team comprised of experts from University of Akron, Biolife Labs, NEOMED and Johns Hopkins.
Intellectual property - provisional patents regarding the process of infiltration of the vaccine into the plant.
